Developing a Grassroots Passion in Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach Field Hockey were formed out of grassroots efforts to expose our surrounding area to this developing sport. Nearly three decades later we are still focused on that same goal to provide as many youth athletes with opportunities to play, train and prepare for club teams and middle school seasons.
Programs Are Structured for All Ages:
Pee Wees (4–6 Years Old):
At this age, the goal is to attract the interest of the children in sports by giving them a safe, enjoyable and supportive environment and introducing them to:

- Motor Skill Development and Socialization with Other Children through:
- Listening Skills, Self Confidence and Sportsmanship.
Youth (7–8 Years Old):
As children develop athletically, they will see a greater degree of structure and game play; learning, developing, and executing:

- How to Position Themselves on Offense and Defense.
- How to be updated on what is going on in the field and to work with other players.
The practice used during the year will include both skill development and small sided games to increase enjoyment and the development of players.
Juniors (Ages 9 – 11):
At the junior level, players improve their skills, learn how to make good decisions and use techniques. They learn through different game situations that are the copy of real competition. Players develop:

This age group prepares you to play on club teams, competitive middle school teams and play field hockey.
Middle School Level (Ages 12 – 14):
The program focuses on preparing the older players for high level competitions, providing them with the training sessions on advanced stick skills, positioning, conditioning and execution of the play.
The objective is to prepare the player physically and mentally for competitive team situations, while also keeping with sportsmanship and accountability.

Goalkeeping is a very demanding and difficult spot to play in all field sports, and as such, requires its own developmental focus from the training program. Our program provides specialized training that includes necessary skills to be successful for goalies Field hockey and Lacrosse.
